• Counseling Services - Counseling services for Medi-Cal eligible students are available by contacting the Family Center.

• Basic Need Support - The Family Center has a listing of resources available to assist families with food banks, and other basic needs help. The Family Center may also be able to assist you with emergency food supplies from our small pantry on site.  Go to the Health section of our website for more resources and services available.
• The “Grab Bag” - A used clothing store is available for families.  Infant, children’s, men’s and women’s clothing is available.  We will also have interview outfits available.  Donations of gently used, smoke free clothing are welcome!
• Clothing Closet - A small clothing closet is also maintained in the Family Center for use by Yucca Loma students. If you have gently used, smoke free clothing that you would like to donate for this clothing closet, bring it to the Family Center.
• Operation School Bell - In partnership with the Assistance League of the Victor Valley, students are able to be placed on a list for inclusion in Operation School Bell, a clothing program designed to help families in need of clothing for elementary aged children in the Victor Valley.
• Lower Your Utility Bills!! - Free Program - For low income families needing help. If you own or rent, you may qualify to receive weatherization services for FREE!! Qualifying for this program depends on household annual income and number of people in the home.

The Family Center is a hub of information for programs and services taking place, not only around the Yucca Loma School area, but also in other parts of our community. You can also check out the Town of Apple Valley website at www.applevalley.org for more local town happenings and information.

Additionally, dialing 2-1-1 on your phone can give you information and referrals for health and social services in the surrounding area and www.highdesertonline.com provides information on a variety of other resources in the High Desert.  Also, www.laopinion.com/weconnect has many resources and programs available for California’s working families.

Community organizing seeks to teach people how to reconnect to their greatest resource: each other. Community organizing helps people overcome cultural and economic barriers to civic participation by linking them to deeply held values around children, families, and community.

Leadership training - Neighborhood Leadership Academy - critical to the success of any community improvement effort is the effective leadership of key residents who can guide neighbors in community wide decision making.

A newly formed Neighborhood Leadership Academy, part of the Vista Loma Neighborhood Network, is up and running and you are invited to participate! Monthly meetings are held in english and spanish. Presentation topics are: activating the leader in you; asset building, presentation skills, town hall 101, managing conflict and personality styles; neighborhood watch and crime prevention; problem solving and event organizing. Contact the Family Center to be put on our mailing list.

• Would you like to learn English or Spanish? - Rosetta Stone language learning software is available for ANY interested parents.
• Job Club - Come in anytime to work on your resume or search the web for new job postings.

• Use of Computers - If you’d like to brush up on your typing skills, need to research info for a job, type a paper for a class or do other types of research, you are welcome to use the bank of computers available in the Family Center during the school day.
• Community Based Mentoring for Children - Volunteer mentors work with students at Yucca Loma to help them academically and socially. If you’d like to become a mentor, click on the Mentoring link above. To have your child included in our program, contact the Family Center to be put on the waiting list.

• Latino Family Literacy Classes - are forming now for parents wanting to increase their reading skills. Dates and times will be decided as parents register. Class is limited to 10 parents per session.

• Health Insurance Application Assistance (Healthy Families and MediCal) - The Family Center is pleased to be able to offer families assistance in completing the Healthy Families/MediCal application for insurance. There is no charge for this service. Check with the Family Center to see if you qualify.
• 100% Insurance Campaign - In partnership with St. Mary Medical Center, Yucca Loma is proud to be participating in a 100% insurance campaign to get ALL children at Yucca Loma insured with some type of health insurance.
• Immunization Clinics - Periodically, St. Mary Medical Center and the High Desert Toddler Immunization Coalition partner at the Family Center to provide a morning of free immunizations for all children. Check our website calendar for the next clinic date!
• Dental Clinics - Periodically, Victor Valley Mobile Dental Van partners with the Family Center to provide free dental services to the community. Watch our calender for upcoming dates!
• Emergency Services - Catholic Charities San Bernardino/Riverside is partnering with our Family Center to provide emergency services for Yucca Loma families. Services primarily food and utility payments. This service is by appointment only through the Family Center.
• Latino Nutrition & Gardening Classes - A variety of healthy eating, nutrition, and cooking tips will be offered through this educational series. Classes will be given in English and Spanish. 9:00am - 10:00am in the garden.

• Garden Spaces - The community garden wants YOU and YOUR family to be a part  of our garden! If you’d like to learn how to grow your own food, get some tips on gardening and have an opportunity to socialize with other neighbors and beautify your neighborhood, at the same time, the garden may be just for you.

•  OPEN GATE!  Family activities occur each month in the garden.  Come enjoy food samples from the garden, take a garden tour, listen to strolling musicians, do an art project, meet your neighbors!  Check our website calendar for upcoming events.
