Through funding and support from The Wilmas Charitable Trust, the Apple Valley Unified School District, SouthWest Gas Co., Apple Valley Rotary, Victor Valley College, and countless volunteers, the Harvest To Home Community Garden was created on the school grounds of Yucca Loma School. Situated in the heart of the community surrounding Yucca Loma School, the garden was designed to be a community gathering spot for residents desiring to grow foods; a spot for fellowship with others in the community; a place for educational classes and programs to occur; and an area of beauty for the neighborhood in need of revitalization.
Garden beds, a greenhouse, arbor, and a community seating area have been created in the garden.
Through the Corporation for National Service, an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer was placed in the garden for one and a half years to help with the establishment of these projects. Unfortunately, there is no longer a VISTA on site and the garden is not yet self sustaining.
If you’d like to contribute to the prosperity of the garden, there are several different ways in which you can help:
- Spread the word to anyone who may be interested in knowing more about or supporting Harvest to Home. Tell others!
- Participate in the garden - volunteer!
- Donate seeds, equipment, mulch, dirt, bottled water or other materials or supplies.
