The Community Building Initiative, funded through the St. Joseph Health System Foundation, is an innovative program offered through the Family Center to bring residents, community leaders, and school partners together for the betterment of the community. Focusing on four main issues, the Vista Loma Neighborhood Network is addressing issues of concern in the geographical area immediately surrounding Yucca Loma School. The four areas of concern are: reduction of gangs and drugs, increase in afterschool and non school activities for youth, examination of ways to improve street safety, and providing of a support system for residents to search for and develop jobs in the area.
Areas of volunteer involvement include the following:
Community Building Initiative (CBI) Advisory Board — Community and business leaders and local residents comprise the makeup of the advisory board. The Board meets once every other month to discuss and address areas of concern and plan projects for the future.
Resident Participation — If you are a resident of the area surrounding Yucca Loma School, whether you are a renter or homeowner, we welcome your involvement in this initiative! As a resident, you are a valuable asset to this community and we need your support.
If you are interested, a Community Building Initiative Volunteer Application can be faxed, mailed or brought into our office for consideration of the Board.
